Everyone hates wasting time, and for good reason too, as they are pretty hard to find and often don’t go back. However, there are a lot of mistakes that can happen if you waste time, so it’s important to look out for…
1) Don’t Forget About Your Reader
You can learn a Lot from your reader’s opinion, especially if they read books that you know are written by professional authors. I found this process to be fascinating, and not very difficult, and I recommend you give this a shot too. What I learned was that if we want to gain anything for our own writing, we need to remember that it is ultimately a service. People buy from us, and we offer them something that they can enjoy. As a reader, you can tell what is good and bad for your own personal preferences.
2) Learn How Other Writers Are Making Money
If you have a lot of experience and knowledge in your area, then you already know the importance of SEO. This is particularly beneficial if you are trying to make money for your blog, as the search engines provide a vast amount of information on topics for which you might write articles. If you know SEO, or know something that can benefit your readers, you should probably think about using it. Again, I found this to be pretty challenging, but I got through it relatively easily.

4) Avoid Plagiarism
In case you have seen the movie Elf, you probably already know that plagiarism is fairly frowned upon. Unfortunately, it’s a problem that plagues everyone, not just creatives. So, unless you want your blog to lose credibility to the point of losing potential readers, avoid plagiarizing. Personally, whenever I used the word plagiarism, I was met with an onslaught of comments from users telling me that I had stolen their ideas. Never do that! Unless, of course, you did steal their idea without fully realizing it. That’s not the same as plagiarizing completely. Plagiarism, when defined, simply means that you copied someone else’s work, and did it wrong (sometimes by stealing someone else’s idea).
